We could not do the work we do without the volunteers donating their time with us. As a food bank volunteer, you directly contribute to our mission of providing nutritious food to people in need with compassion, dignity, and respect. Volunteering with Nourish Pierce County is a great way to meet new people, serve an immediate need in the community, and have some fun!
Nourish Food Bank prep shifts are very labor intensive, requiring volunteers to be physically fit and capable of heavy lifting, loading and unloading, and standing for long periods, up to several hours. For safety and liability reasons, Nourish reserves the right to decline volunteers who cannot meet the physical requirements of the position. This means that Nourish may not have suitable volunteer work for all people who are interested in volunteering.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Sort and bag fresh produce
- Unload and organize food donations
- Clean food bank and assist with garbage disposal
Necessary Skills and Qualifications:
- Must be physically fit and able to lift at least 40 pounds repeatedly throughout shifts
- Ability to work on your feet for several hours
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Basic computer skills
- Courtesy and helpfulness are expected
- Closed toe shoes and shirts with sleeves are required
